The Original Photo

It's been a little rough for me lately trying to find work down here in Austin. I busted out the traditional media the other day, and took some pent up energy out on the canvas. I painted this photo that a great friend of mine had taken recently. (thanks for that Scott!) It was a wonderful afternoon, just me...a pallete knife.....and some colored butter. Hope ya'll dig it.

till next time!

Steampunk- The Headless Horseman

1-21-09

Hey Folks,

I've recently finished and turned this in for the "Steampunk Myths and Legends" competition over at the internet place called cgsociety.org. I was looking at some older illustrators, and was blown away by a few pieces that had these dark characters silhouetted against a light background. It inspired me to do a piece where most of the information was in the darks and the lights were dominated by shape. This one has definitely been a painting to learn from. I'm still trying to find a way to incorporate interesting character design into my paintings without just painting "a dude standing there".

..anyway, on to the next one! Hope you dig it.

Headless Horseman Thumbs

hola,

thanks for the encouragement on the "Steampunk" challenge everybody! The deadline is approaching fast, and there is some pretty cool work popping up in the forums over there. Here are some thumbnails I did for the competition. I've started the final, but I think there are rules against posting it anywhere until the challenge is over, so I'll hold off on that one.

it's 2009!!

(Who's still writing 2008 on things by accident? I know I am)

Hey Folks thanks for stopping by,

Recently I've hit another career snag. Midway Studios Austin decided to shut it's doors earlier this month. However, I remain hopeful. I managed to escape with some good friendships, and a healthy dose of real world experience. On another note I recently became an octopus, and in an attempt to stay busy I decided to start a bunch of things at once. With all this stuff in progress, plus my move back to the great white north I've become one giant WIP of a person.

Some personal work in the middle-earth of completion.

...Also, there is a community challenge going on over at cgsociety.org where contestants undertake the task of redesigning a popular myth or legend into the "steampunk" genre. It sounded like a blast, so I took up the banner of my old buddy "The headless horseman". It's been fun so far, we'll see what happens. Here are some ideas I've been kicking around for it.
