B&W Art final

6-29-09

Here is the final piece for the artorder.blogspot challenge. I had to jump some weird compositional hurdles, problems created due to my own negligence. I'm unsure how I feel about the splotchy half-tone I used. I originally had a regular half-toned dot grade, but thought it really stifled the energy I was going for.

...anyway, here is the piece.

"Why you gotta be like dat gurl?"

Thanks for dropping in! Wish me luck in the competition.

online art contests

I'm comin' up for air here....*gasp*

I'm hitting that stride where I actually produce less, but feel like I have been working all day/night without stopping. Here in Joyce-landia we are doing what would be called "crunch" in another industry, and twilight starts to shine over the production of book one-of-six on the Guardians project. Once It's done i'll make sure I spam this blog with all the promotion I am allowed to. The project has been officially announced to the world, but it's NDA status is complicated. (Less on that later)

The Artorder blog has another online challenge I wanted to be part of. It's a B&W illustration bout vampires. Here are the thumbs I have so far. Pretty excited about where it's going. Let me know what you guys think.

***Edit*** a friend reminded me the format for the final has to be 3" x 6.75", so....blegh I'll have to make some changes

here is some sketchbook stuff in the meantime.

1PPW//7-One Page Per Week

Hey Folks,

sorry this is a day late....I bought an X-box 360 this weekend.

"Ritual"

I did some experimenting with a halftone. I think I am getting closer to where I want to be, but there is still a lot of ground to cover. I have to start writing these, BEFORE I start drawing them. Thanks for stopping by, I hope you like it!

Terrible yellow Eyes

Hey dudes,

Some cool stuff happening in the past few days! I was asked by the very cordial Cory Godbey to join his collective birthday gift for illustrator/writer all around awesome guy Maurice Sendak. He has been gathering artists to contribute to a blog titled "Terrible Yellow Eyes", and on June 10th (Mr. Sendak's birthday) he is going to send all the work over as a collective birthday present.

frickin sweet right!?!

There is some really cool stuff over at the blog. He has some work from some heavy hitters, including Bluesky's Jake Parker and Mike Lee! Needless to say, I am very honored and excited to be part of the big 'ole internet art hug headed Mr S's way.

Here is the piece I did, hopefully ya'll dig it....cross your fingers for me (hopefully Mr. Sendak likes it)
